I think Swafu’s approach is going well, don’t you?
Also, forgive the lateness of this update for what was likely one, maybe two people, who checked the site and saw no update. The last time something failed to upload properly as scheduled was years ago, so I think our run’s going well so far.
OCD count: 120
I usually check before work, assumed you were dead, guess I’ll have to scrap the obituary i was writing up.
Also 7am on a Friday? Everyone’s gonna be on their way to work or school. Plan better Swafu.
Exactly: everybody will be on their way… via the streets! Just try not to show up! Swafu’s plan, like all her plans, is brilliant and without flaw.
I rely on RSS since I can’t even keep track of my own schedule. Half the time, once my reader’s checked the site and I’ve checked the reader, the comic has already passed “hot off the press” and settled into “relatively fresh.”
Panels 3-6 were extra delayed for me, since I had to de-fog my glasses and stop my anime nosebleed. Pretty spicy, Miss Hedgey.
Excerpt from page 267 of the unpublished thesis “Relationship Dynamics and Sexuality in the 2016 FIniverse”:
Panel 2 engages the reader on two levels, by using the conspicuous cleavage-and-upskirt fanservice as an emotional shock and as commentary on the genre’s typical “Dragon gaze” toward Swafu characters (note how the Dragon-POV angle was deliberately established one panel previous). By breaking the 180-degree rule in the very next panel, the author magnifies the audience’s distraction just as Swafu reiterates her non-relationship-oriented life goals, subtly creating an emotional resonance between the reader and a Dragon unwilling to look beyond Swafu’s physical qualities.
One could argue the author is heavy-handedly manipulating the audience simply to lampshade the way popular media portrays relationships from an almost exclusively Dragon-oriented perspective. After all, biases which go unnoticed by a cheetah author would stand out to a hedgehog author by nature of her own societal experiences. To these defenders, I would point out that only one FI storyline in 2016 so far has unambiguously passed the Bechdel test, as every other storyline fails to meet even the more lenient prerequisite of two characters who talk to each other.
I’m glad someone noticed, :)
