Howdy folks. If you checked around earlier yesterday you might have seen the place has been cleaned up and in the middle of some redesigns, and after some fiddling around and plenty of work the official new look for Fruit Incest is finally done. It’s still got a fairly simple minimalistic look, which I hope y’all don’t mind.
First and foremost, special thanks goes to Oliver Bareham, aka SuitCase of Bittersweet Candy Bowl fame. He’s been a big help the past few days making little fixes and touchups to the new layout, which he made in the first place…about a year ago. My apologies to him and everyone else for taking so long getting around to this kind of thing, but I’ll do my best to get this kind of work done as soon as possible from now on, and many many thanks to Mr. SuitCase for getting so much done for the site. Everyone send him mental hugs now.
To everyone else, I hope you find the new look to your likings and I want to thank you all for reading the comic. I haven’t gotten anything big done for a while, but I’ll do my best and see how many new readers we can get to see it regularly in the future. Thank you to everyone, and remember to love all of your lolis.
No! Not changes! I’m scared of change and also bears and also the urban youths with their low pants and hip hop music!
And their hip hopping while wearing low pants! D:
I always get nervous when people redsign websites. Nine times out of ten, the “improvments” just make things worse. Fortunately, that’s not the case here. I won’t say I’m immediately enamoured of the new look, but I’ll get used to it soon enough. And bonus point for keeping the minimalism. Minimalism is good.
One thing I’ll point out, though: your nifty tilted-comic-number-in-orange-cirlce thing doesn’t play nice with these cocktail posts: all I see is the top half of the word “The” peeking up from the bottom of the circle (other ones are similar). I’ll also comment that the amount of blank space above the Fruit incest logo seems unecessarily large (though it doesn’t hurt the layout as such, and I can’t claim to remember if it wasn’t that way before). Just my two cents worth from the peanut gallery. Of course, both of those things might just be due to my browser.
Overall, the redesign gets a four (out of five) from me. Keep up the good work.
Two more minor things, again possibly browser related: after submitting a comment, the “Your comment is awaiting moderation” wraps to a second line and overlaps the text of the comment; and when replying to a comment, there’s no longer any “cancel reply” option, and thus no way to tell if you’re making a new comment or replying to one, plus being a bit of a nuisance if you change your mind about replying.
The dot on the Cocktail posts is a bug that should have been fixed by now but seems to have popped up again. We’ll fix it shortly. The blank space above the logo is also where the ad would be if Project Wonderful weren’t having some server issues the past couple of days. Thankfully none of your problems with the redesign should be more than temporary glitches we’ll fix up soon. Thank you you for bringing the comment bugs to our attention as well.
One more thing I found: the text overflows the number dot for the B comics (at least, 732B and 739B do), so the B is cut off, which suggests that it’ll also be a problem once the comic count reaches four digits.
And one more minor thing: the “Your comment is awaiting moderation” notice now displaces the “Reply [date] at [time]” left so it overruns the commenter’s name (unless the name is really short, I guess).
Thank you. There’s minor bugs like that lurking around, but I’ll fix what I can.
I really like the forward/back buttons now. They’re really cute, and they fit in with the comic a lot better than the old ones. I never even realized I wanted nicer buttons until, tbh. :P
