Fruit Incest: For when you run out of better things to do.

To the future of yesterday!

Ah November is here. Year 2 is official now and it’s time to get to hard work getting Fruit Incest in tip top shape. Now, for the first order of business, what the hell is wrong with my scanner! First it decides it no longer knows how to be a printer, but seeing as I rarely need to print things, I let it slide. Then it starts to randomly crop my images, no matter how many times I rescan it or even where I put it on the scanner screen itself, but this seems to be isolated events, so I let it slide again. Now, it seems to randomly give me trouble every week or two and I’m honestly starting to get a little worried, since my luck doesn’t tend to go well in situations like this.

You know, I bet this is because I managed to get brand new drawing equipment for all under ten bucks. The world is not satisfied with me saving money, so it’s slowly working towards making me have to buy a new printer/scanner. Keep in mind I already had to fork over $700 to get a new computer overnight when my old one exploded on me. None of this would be a problem if it weren’t for the fact I’m still out of a “real” job and my FI profit has barely reached a total of three dollars by my one year anniversary. I am so poor I can’t even think of a proper joke to end on.

Anyways, I’d hate to resort to begging, but I do need as many views as I can. Who knows, maybe someday I’ll be making a whole ten cents a day and I might be able to afford instant noodles. Fruit Incest needs to expand people, and we need you to spread the word! Maybe once I get a large enough fanbase I can beg for stuff without feeling like I’m begging to what largely consists of friends and neighbors, but for now you’ll have to deal with a sad Miss Hedgey, who’s gonna turn 19 in a few weeks. A wee lass, I am, who just wants to make people laugh and make money in the most lazy way possible. Help a hedgehog out. Please, think of the lolis.

Celebrate the birth of Taffy

The process of Fruit Incest’s creation took a while, but it was no more than two weeks really. If you want an official date for the one year anniversary then today is probably the closest to that. Exactly one year ago I posted my first comic in all it’s badly drawn glory, making Fruit Incest ready for the public for the first time. Our one month anniversary/Halloween special is only halfway over at the time of writing this, but today is the official birthday of the anniversary, so everyone rejoice. The first year is over! FI deserves some presents now. A number of viewers larger than last year’s would be nice, but you don’t have to be so specific.

My gift? Well, I gave Fruit Incest a nice little picture of itself. I even added a few to the Concentrate page. Everyone enjoy some useless avatars no one will ever use! Now to be completely honest, I started working on these months ago and yet I only managed to make four in all this time (five including one I made for personal use). It’s kind of sad but I promise to pick up the pace eventually. I don’t even have half the avatars I wanted made, so that’s another thing on my ever growing to-concentrate list. Everyone enjoy some birthday cake though, or any other delicious cake-like food stuff.

And don’t forget to give me some presents. I made you weekly comics for a whole year now and all I got was this sentence. Some extra brownies will suffice though. I know y’all love me, so oodles of thanks and love in return. Remember to continue spreading the love, especially to those who deserve it most. Love your lolis everyone.

Merry Halloween, Ho Ho Ho!

Let’s do some math here. The last day of September was on a comic update day, meaning October 1 was just one day off from being on an update day. So skipping straight ahead to the next update, and all the ones that follow, the month of October has exactly 13 comic days, with that last one, October 31, being on a Sunday. Just one off day would’ve ruined all this, but I not only get a comic up on Halloween day, but I get such a nice number of updates, it’s all a sign. And that leads us to the lovely Halloween Special, which shall take up the entirety of October. It may seem early now but by the time we get halfway through you’ll be seeing Christmas ads on TV, so enjoy the spookiness while you can.

Oh, but this is more than just a celebration of the best night in the world. Nope. If you could just scroll your eyes over to the side to that Fruit Basket and look at the bottom of the list, could you please tell me what you see. Oh what’s that? October 2009? That’s exactly one year ago isn’t it? That means FI turns a year old this month! When will that be? Well it’s a bit of a tricky thing to pinpoint it to one day. From the time it took me to draw my first comics, upload them onto the Internet for the first time, purchase the domain and hosting service for FI, set up the site, cry in the corner when I couldn’t get the site up overnight, and post my first official update of FI, the exact birthday for Incestuous Fruits is a bit vague. Well since I can’t decide where to start, let’s make the entire month of October our one year anniversary special!

But wait, we already have something going on in October don’t we? Well, I guess I’ll just have to make a 13 part anniversary special Halloween comic! And guess what, the very first comic in the special is comic number 150. Can you believe it’s been 150 comics already? October is the greatest month ever! Knowing my luck next year will have everything be off by one day, but 2010 has been super convenient and I’m not letting it go to waste, so let’s get started!

Oh, but the good news just keeps coming. Today also marks our very first fan work! If the two or three of you who feel like drawing stuff for me is worth the effort feel like contributing, you’re welcome to email your own fanart along with any other name or links you want me to plug for you cause you’re all so awesome and got me past my first year of comic making. Can you believe a year ago I was 17 year old nobody, and now, one year later, I’m an 18 year old nobody, with a cult following! Thank you all so much and enjoy your comics and cocktail and all the free fruit punch you can drink, cause we earned it!

And on a lesser note, I got a decent spam blocker so I can probably go back to not having to manually approve each individual comment if you guys would like. If I get no comments on that I’ll just leave it as is then since no one seems to mind apparently. But hey, it’s a super month of Octobery goodness! Everyone get out your mugs of cat beer, give your lolis a big loving hug, and toast to a job well done. To Fruit Incest, Fruit Incest and lolis!

SPAAAM

Why am I getting so much spam?! In the past two days I’ve had over eight spam comments in the approve list when before I’d get about one a month. I understand these things happen when you get more views and run into spam bots, but my page views are essentially the same as they’ve been for months, so where are these spam bots hiding?! Have I angered a spam robot that assimilates my readers into their Borg Spam Units? Is the BSU replacing all the regular comments with spam? Does this have anything to do with me changing the comment approval settings? Should I go back to manually approving everything? And what about the Lizard Spheres? Either way, the amount of spam showing up in the comment approval list has quadrupled and I don’t like it. Someone get me a brownie, I could really use one. Be sure to protect your lolis from the spam bots everyone.

No one ever comments, there's too much discussion.

One thing that’s bothered me recently was the little comments feature. No, I’m not talking about the comments themselves (although those who do leave them thank you very much). I’m talking about comment approval. Comicpress allows comment authors to be automatically approved after their first time, which is what most webcomics do from what I’ve seen. I, on the other hand, have tried to approve every single comment. It’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s that I want to read every individual comment as soon as possible, so having a big red dot saying that comments need approval is a nice way of getting me to hurry. Still, I guess it would be better if you guys had a chance to have your own discussion, even if there rarely is discussion in the comments. Anyways, I’ll switch to the more traditional method for now, but only cause I like you and the OCD monster was stalking me again. Not just for the comments thing, but also for never actually making blog posts, so I get to kill two birds with one stone, right? Well, okay, I guess it’s more like catching two birds and tying them both to your hand, but at least we have a nice set of pet birds! Be sure to give lovely pets to your lolis.

Edit: Boy is my face red. I make a big deal over this comments thing and I conveniently forget that in order to accommodate for the manual approval thing I didn’t make e-mail and names mandatory. And obviously if I want to only approve comments once Comicpress needs to know who you are. Silly me. I’d inquire if switching to the traditional method is necessary, but no one reads this, so I’ll just ask for some verification for a while before I get bored and force everyone to wait for me again. Teehee.

I know it's my destiny, but…

Ah, my biggest continuous project yet finally comes to an end. I’d be glad to finally take a break, but I sense a busy season coming up and I don’t wanna fall behind again while I still have momentum. Of course, you guys can just sit back and enjoy the comics getting uploaded on time like usual. In case you didn’t notice, I uploaded a whopping three new pieces of concentrate during this whole Pokemon thing, nowhere near the amount I was going for. The good news is you can get a few more FIth gen stuff getting uploaded over the next few weeks (or months) while I try to catch up on that as well as several other things I’ve gotten lazy on.

I’d like to take this time to point out that I am between jobs, bouts of minor depression, and mountains of work just for the regular comics alone, so I really appreciate those of you who stick with me all the way and visit my little piece of chocolatey goodness three times a week, especially those who aren’t obligated to do so (not that I don’t appreciate my awesome friends helping their favorite hedgehog out). I know it’s cliche’d, but it’s all worth it if I can make one person smile. Of course, it would be even more worth it if smiles could pay the bills and save up some mula so I can afford to spend more time on making beautiful pieces of art, and then putting together some ugly doodles for my fans while people start wondering why I’m painting on an invisible canvas. In all seriousness though, Fruit Incest could always use some more readers to help boost up some numbers so I can make more than just a penny off of adspace a day. We’re still a long way from our goal of world domination people, so chop chop.

Again though, thanks to everyone. I’ll try not to let the temporarily lessened workload slow me down too much. Everyone have a wonderful read and love your lolis.

FIth Generation

Not that anyone ever checks it, but the Concentrate page recently got this little doodle. It may not seem like much but anyone who noticed it got the first look into my next little project based on my very own FIth gen. This little story arc will include quite a lot of parts and take up several comics, and that’s after I compressed and cut out a lot of stuff in it. To be honest, I was kind of hoping to save this for when I was better at all this, but since Nintendo decided to be competent and release the Fifth Generation of Pokemon games now they sort of pushed up my deadline since my delicious pun will only be relevant for a little while longer.

So just what shall you expect from all this? Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you when I said it’s a lot of parts. I’m sure by the end of this I’ll be sick and tired of Pokemon and will be anxious to drawing four panel jokes about a whale that takes two seconds to draw. Hopefully you guys will tolerate it a bit more. I had plenty of concentrate stuff planned to be released alongside this whole thing, but knowing me I’ll probably leave those till the last second. You know how I am with Concentrate.

So for now, enjoy the adventures of the unnamed Pokemon Trainers and their new journey into the world of badly planned fan expansion of your childhood memories, and give thanks to all the kind folks at Nintendo and Game Freak for creating the wonderful universe I’m about to butcher. I’m sure many happy people there go to bed at night feeling satisfied knowing they’ve provided nerds like me a chance to show off their super awesome pokeymons. Your help and motivation will be especially appreciated here to keep me going. So wish me and your new main characters good luck, and remember that you gotta catch all lolis.

Will Work For Muffins

by Miss Hedgey on July 24, 2010 at 10:34 AM

So how is everyone? Your favorite mistress of hedgehogs is feeling a little blue, but luckily, I’m not as depressed as she is. Miss Hedgey is still in her rough patch, but it’s slowly migrating to the rough patch that’s been with me since the beginning. Wait, I mean her. Rough patch has been with Miss Hedgey the third-person speaking cutie. Miss Hedgey’s feeling a bit obsessive compulsive too, but what else is new? Cute japanophile characteristics aside, I’m slowly getting back on my feet and currently preparing for a big project, and I mean big. More details when we get to that but for now I get a week or so of dreading the day I have to start working on it.

In the meantime, that week will be spent working on my regular job. The one that pays me more than one cent a day. It seems I shall be out of work then, and back to being a poor bum drawing for table scraps. I’m just lucky my expenses on this comic are already discountarific so I can at least keep this one thing going. And that’s what’s new in the world of Miss Hedgey. Everything else is same old same old. Same old drawing style. Same old low statistics. It’s all fine and dandy on your end isn’t it? Lucky readers don’t know how much trouble we artists go through. I need an egg salad sandwich now.

And before I forget (in fact I already did and edited this in), my tablet’s been going crazy on me. My pen settings just go haywire at random and it wont let me actually open up the settings menu to change it back for some reason. I can still work, but it’s diminished my editing skills to that of MS Paint standards. It’s caused me more than a few minor inconveniences and must be destroyed. So if you notice any minor flukes on my end, you know what to blame.

Other than that, enjoy your filler cocktail post and love your lolis everyone.

Despicable Miss

Well it’s been some time since the site was unpresentable, so I think an update is in order, simply to change the technical difficulties. So far the only thing that hasn’t been fixed is the fact that the comment button and comment names are bolded, but that’s easily ignored.

In terms of comic updates, I apologize in advance if I get any lesser comics done or do a bunch of simpler ones all at once. I hate to be honest, but I’ve been a bit depressed lately. Yes, your happy hedgehog does lose her bubbly personality from time to time, but don’t worry about me. A rough patch for me shouldn’t mean no more funnies for you, so your incestuous relations shall continue!

I’ve had some projects in the works for some time, and I mean some time considering it’s been several months. I think it’s fair I give some sort of hint at least. So here’s a checklist of some of the things I need to do.

  • Concentrate- I wanted to do at least one or two new doodles each month but that clearly hasn’t been done right. I’m not the type to get fanart either, so don’t expect too much in the just-add-water department.
  • Special Art- I don’t want to spoil too much, but if you like some classic characters and color, along with 100×100 squares, then you’re in luck. I’m about three eights done with this thing so there’s some progress at least.
  • Other Special Art- This is yet another Concentrate project I’ve had in the works for a while. It’s further down on my to-do list so don’t expect much in the near future.
  • Blog Special- A very minor, hardly thought out project, but if I ever get around to it then this blog would be getting some work done on it. Or not. My biggest concern is regular updates getting lost in special blogs, as rare as they are, so this is yet another thing to add on the Concentrate list.
  • FIth Gen- Unlike other things, this one does have a deadline, so expect me to bring great shame to my family if I don’t have this one done by mid September.
  • Not Sucking- This one might take a while.
  • Make an Egg Salad Sandwich- Haven’t had one in quite some time, so expect me to eat lunch in the near future and not talk about it. You want sandwich updates go to Twitter or something.

Good luck to all and good luck to me. Remember to love your lolis folks.

WordPress Sucks

As some of you may notice, WordPress just changed my whole layout! If anyone knows a quick way to fix this please help me, otherwise I’ll have to try and fix it all manually. Although it looks like the previous layout I had doesn’t even exist. I’m gonna have to do some archive binging apparently. Boo WordPress. I didn’t even want that upgrade, I just clicked it so it would stop telling me there was a new upgrade.

You know, I realize this is mostly my fault for not making a backup after my old laptop exploded on me. You remember that? Yeah, I was supposed to re-backup everything after that but I never did. Stupid Miss Hedgey, not even doing her job right. You know, this reminds me of when I first started out and made a long list of things I had to fix, just like now. Ah, memories. Memories of how much I suck at computers.

EDIT: Alright, I got it all mostly fixed, just a few things remaining which I hope will be done by tomorrow. I swear the menu font looks different though. Anyone happen to catch what it was before? Oh well, everyone be thankful the Comicpress people aren’t as incompetent as their Word cousins. Thank you kind strangers!
