Fruit Incest: Where the cute things eat the wild things.

Just add Concentrate.

This place has always been in desperate need for new material, so I finally added an “Extras” page. Granted, it’s pretty empty and will most likely stay that way for a while, but if I get nagged enough then maybe I’d add something. I’ve got future plans for our new menu item, but that’s for a later time. For now, just enjoy the very very slow and not that impressive progress. Who knows. Maybe I’ll get nice fanart one of these days and I can show it off to rub it in the face of my not-fans. That’ll show them not to do whatever it is they did.

The Problems of Yesterday, Tomorrow!

Wow, I need to get in the habit of adding things here. I guess I’ve been too busy munching these delicious muffins! Anyways, seeing this spot collect dust keeps reminding me of the things that need to be done. Aside from getting a new comic every few days and some daily commercials from our good friends at A* (at least for our American viewers as of last Sunday due to Project Wonderful’s new regional redesign) the place is mostly the same as when I opened it up and tinkered with some Comicpress options.

So what I want is some ideas. Is the logo up there doing alright? What should I add to the upcoming *spoilers*? Not much to say with the current fanbase, but we must always look forward to the future! The delicious muffiny future. Maybe with some nice toast and jam, or maybe make it a full meal. Oh great, now I want another egg salad sandwich. Thanks alot me!

Anyways, this is basically your stereotypical “sorry for not updating” update, as well as a reminder that the place is indeed mostly empty and suggestions are well appreciated. Except in the next ten to fifteen minutes. I’ll be busy cooking myself a sandwich. Do not disturb sandwich time!

Tell Austin we won.

Hooray for Internet capitalism and making a 1 penny profit a day! It took a while, but Fruit Incest finally has something actually taking up that space up there. At least it didn’t take as long as it took to get a decent header, somewhat. I often laugh at the thought of me or someone else reading this in the future and wondering why something so trivial makes for a cocktail post, but that’s then and this is now. So what does all this mean? Absolutely nothing. Just gives me another reason to whore out for attention. And now, I would like to test something out.

Ah, the comments, the one thing the author uses to know how well known their work is. Often taken for granted because they’re usually by stupid people who don’t read the Youtube description, but luckily I don’t have anyone like that yet. All the comments are from people I know, and most of those people were nagged to this site in the first place, but if I can last this long without being told by my friends just how obnoxious I am, I know I can pull through in the end. Cooking Mama!

Also, I’ve added a subtle hint on the site to let people know when Cocktail has a new subject of discussion. May you all enjoy seeing me drive myself insane trying to come up with one liners!

I need a holiday.

Nothing gets you excited like finishing a big project like the Santa Sarah story. It’s nothing too big or professional, but I consider it a big step for me considering most of you all reading this the day it gets posted are people I know who were brainwashed into supporting me and making me egg salad sandwiches (I love you zombie slaves!).

It will almost be 3 months since this little fruit bowl was made (although I wasted half of the first month getting it up and running…), and I’m proud of myself for updating regularly, keeping things smoothe, and not deviating from the schedule for one day in the past several weeks. For the first time in ages, I feel like I accomplished something that doesn’t involve making delicious egg salad sandwiches.

In the spirit of the holidays, the conclusion to Santa Sarah will be up for a while. That’s right, for the first time since I started, I wont be updating on a Sunday. Despite the OCD monster using this against me already, I believe I deserve a break until next Tuesday. It shall be the most relaxing Sunday I ever had too. I’ll sit by a cozy fire, wrap up nice and snuggly in my blanket and watch some TV while eating an egg salad sandwich.

…I’m hungry right now. Is it noticeable?

Die for your art.

I’ve been running Fruit Incest long enough to have a weekly routine now, and at this point I’ve got enough comics uploaded to see which ones are the best quality. There are several factors both physical and electronic that affect the quality of these fine art squiggly lines we call comics.

First is the drawing of the comic itself. There’s just so many things to draw with, and they all have their benefits. For now I’ll discuss two methods I’ve commonly used in the past: straightforward penciling out the comic, or inking it with pen. Now no matter what, no artwork should be done entirely in pen. I always sketche out the comics before hand and then go over them, but this is where the question shows up. By simply going over the sketches in pencil, I save a lot of time and effort on my part since I’m essentially just making my light practice sketches dark enough to see. As you all should know though, pencil isn’t the best material to work with sometimes. It makes the paper seem dirty and smudged and is sometimes too light or thin to show up. Opposing this is the inking method, which requires more work, but makes the image seem nicer, allows for more detailed backgrounds, and minimalizes digital refining, which is good since this is a homemade comic and I want to stick to my word. As you all know though, one wrong move, leak, or twitch of my arm and the entire image is ruined and almost beyond repair without being noticeable. And once again, pen requires me to go over each comic longer and slower, which is sometimes too much for me to handle in one night.

Next we have the uploading and file type. Currently, my scanner is very limited and doesn’t even support the file types I prefer for this site, so I have to convert these scanned images at least once. While I’m reworking these files, I also have to do basic cropping and contrasting, which can be very good or almost unnecessary depending on how I drew it in the first place. Any conspicuous or easily noticeable smudges must be removed, but remove too much and you lose the personal human touch I like so much, which creates yet another dilemma. Finally, I have to decide how much to change the tone of the image. I have to make sure the image isn’t too dark or filled with smudges while also making sure that lines don’t mysteriously disappear and the ones that stay don’t become jaggedy at the sake of removing said smudges.

The point of this little lecture is because I keep switching. I’m a difficult person and it’s hard for me to make decisions, so every time I switch one method, I suddenly miss the benefits of the other. Aside from me wanting to actually use my blog for blogging, I’d like to let it be known just how much work and care goes into these comics. So which do you prefer? I wont say which comics were made under which method, but if you notice certain qualities you like, feel free to point them out so I can tell which benefits are worth the trouble.

Love your lolis.

Underage Web Artist Missing

Yesterday I turned 18. Yes, in what is probably the only place in this site where my age will be mentioned, your humble webcomic just spent its first day being run by someone of legal age for whatever it is your state/country allows 18-year-olds to do. Oh, it felt good to have my own site and several updates up and still feel like a kid. I was just a wee dibbun and yet I had fans. It was a wonderful feeling and I shall always wish I coudl’ve enjoyed it just a bit longer.
Cooking Mama
As for now though, it’s time to move onward as an adult. I may not have had the large audience I had hoped to have before, but seeing as I procrastinated for ages on getting this place up and running in the first place, I’d say it’s a pretty good spot for this milestone. For every person reading this who isn’t from [insert favorite message boards here], know that I appreciate every single one of you, enough that I’ll give you a second Cooking Mama.

Over a month into the birth of Fruit Incest. What’s in store? How will things fare? Miss Hedgey shall find out with firey eyes and poetic blogs about jerks and porn and songs about how the internet is full of jerks and porn. Until next time my loyal fans. Your Missy loves you all.

The Grand Opening.

Welcome everyone to the official start of Fruit Incest, your new favorite comic. Things aren’t exactly done yet, but it’s presentable enough.

For the lucky few who get to view this before the site got it’s actual content, congratulations. You can now say you’ve been following Fruit Incest from the beginning. Isn’t that lovely? You should be honored.
